Research support

Research support by the Institute of Future Fuels
We offer our project partners the possibility to use our large-scale test facilities and laboratory test stands for their experiments. We support project partners from industry in designing the technical, contractual and legal framework for joint research projects.

The DLR Institute of Future Fuels collaborates on many projects with companies and other research institutions.

We offer our project partners the possibility to use our large-scale test facilities and laboratory test stands for their experiments. We support project partners from industry in designing the technical, contractual and legal framework conditions for joint research projects:

  • Targeted search for appropriate funding programs / third-party funding.
  • Development of joint projects and implementation of project management for European collaborative projects.
  • Application support, application coordination and information management.
  • Communication with the competent bodies of the European Commission.
  • Prepare and coordinate application documents and adjust work plan and budget, funds outflow control.
  • Monitor milestone dates, organization and facilitation.
  • Compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Coordination of reporting and accounting.
  • Risk and conflict management.

Support with the application

Both national and EU institutions support projects in research, education and innovation. They often provide large sums of money for collaborative projects between research institutions and companies. However, there are also funding guidelines and programs that provide grants to individual companies, institutes or researchers. At this point, DLR supports potential cooperation partners from industry with the design of the application, the application for funding and the administrative procedures.

There are single-stage and two-stage application procedures. In the two-stage procedure, a so-called outline is submitted with the application, which is then reviewed by selected experts. If the review is positive, a formal application may be submitted. In a one-step procedure, a formal application may be submitted immediately. Whether the one- or two-stage procedure is used is specified in the respective research program or guidelines.

At the beginning is the outline

A project outline is a first brief outline of an idea. It should briefly and clearly describe the key points of the planned project. In the detailed project description, applicants are asked to explain in more detail why the project is worthy of funding.

At the end of the term, DLR supports the industrial project partner in the preparation of the proof of use, the proof of personnel costs, the final technical report, joint publications and an exploitation plan.
