The Project Lab offers multiple areas for the practical research on the various projects that the Institute of Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul is involved in. One area is home to the institute's robots, featuring various cobot arms, a mobile manipulator, and robots developed in-house, such as the endoscopic Elise robot. One significant resident is the Pearl700 engine loaned from Rolls-Royce, which is used to further develop endoscopic robots for in-situ engine maintenance. Other areas are dedicated to new sensor technologies, e.g. air-coupled ultrasonic sensing, and the development of complex sensor buses that can be installed into aircraft and allow condition monitoring with as few cables (and thereby weight) as possible. The Project Lab is also the space where the real world and the digital one meet, as sensed data is transmitted to digital twin systems developed in the institute.
