German-Japanese cooperation for CO₂-neutral fuels launched

- Research agreement between DLR and the University of Tokyo
- Focus on green fuels from atmospheric CO2
- Official signing in Cologne
The DLR Institute of Future Fuels and the Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology (RCAST) at the University of Tokyo have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Cologne to formalise their joint research efforts. The document lays the foundation for long-term cooperation in the areas of green fuel production using atmospheric CO2, with a focus on efficient, economical and ecological production.
Focus on renewable energies and CO2 utilisation
The RCAST aims to contribute to the development of science and technology by taking up new challenges arising from scientific progress and the accompanying changes in society, and by exploring new areas in science and technology for the benefit of mankind and society.
One of the most intensive areas of research is the utilisation of captured CO2 as a chemical raw material using renewable energies and the strategy for the social implementation of these technologies.

The aim of the collaboration is to create synergies, develop and evaluate innovative solutions for green fuels. The signing of this Memorandum of Understanding has created the basis for an intensive scientific exchange aimed at efficiently advancing and evaluating the development of solutions for the energy transition.
