- Presentation on global aviation development and sustainability
- Panel discussion: Impacts of climate change on aviation and collaborative measures for a sustainable future
Participation at at3 in Vienna
During the recent at3 Conference held in June 2024 in Vienna, the Institute of Air Transport was invited as a guest. The event, this year hosted by Vienna Airport, brought together global experts involved in airport development to discuss forward-looking topics such as aviation sustainability.
at3 ("Airport Traffic Think Tank") is a subgroup of ACI World / ACI Europe (Airports Council International), an organisation representing the interests of airports worldwide.
Dr Florian Linke, Acting Director of the Institute of Air Transport, presented an overview of global aviation development and its environmental impacts. His presentation covered technical, operational, and regulatory measures to reduce the climate impact of aviation, including non-CO2 effects. Special attention was given to the European Fit-for-55 measures and their potential impacts on costs and demand.
Panel discussion on aviation sustainability
Following the presentation, a lively panel discussion took place with experts from various sectors of the aviation industry. The main focus was on climate change and its direct consequences for the future development of aviation. There was consensus that a sustainable aviation sector can only be ensured through the coordinated efforts of all parties involved. This is crucial to effectively address the growing challenges of climate change while preserving the positive aspects of international travel.
