Course "Aviation and the Environment
The course "Aviation and the Environment" in cooperation with DLR at the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH), addresses the climatic and environmental challenges of aviation. It covers both CO2 emissions and non-CO2 effects, such as nitrogen oxides and contrails, which significantly contribute to climate impact. The lecture in the summer semester 2025, held by Dr. Florian Linke from the DLR Institute of Air Transport, introduces meteorology and atmospheric physics, examines weather influences on air traffic, and presents technological and operational solutions to reduce environmental impacts. The course also focuses on local environmental effects at airports, such as noise and air quality.
