Research into emissions modelling, quantum computing, robust flight schedules and electric aviation
How can emissions and climate impacts be assessed more effectively, flight schedules made more resilient, and new technologies meaningfully integrated into the air transport system? The DLR Institute of Air Transport was represented with several contributions at the European Transport Conference (ETC) 2026 at the University of Porto in Portugal. The focus was on new approaches to making the air transport system climate-compatible, efficient and robust – from modelling future aviation emissions and using quantum algorithms for more efficient flight operations to electric aircraft and dealing with extreme weather in flight schedules.
