Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is used to produce an anatomic image of the brain. It is needed in order to evaluate the PET scan. The examination takes approximately 10-15 minutes. An fMRI scan (functional magnetic resonance imaging) is performed during the PET measurement to collect additional information on brain activity levels.
