DLR at JEC 2018 in Paris

The German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR) will present its latest research projects on the topic of high-performance fibre-reinforced polymers from 6 to 8 March 2018 at JEC World in Paris – the leading European composites trade fair.

TerraSAR-X
With the TerraSAR-X radar satellite, the land masses of the Earth are particularly closely inspected. This includes the mapping of our forests, the generation and current updating of land utilization maps, the recording of derelict land areas and the estimation of the maturitylevel of areas in agricultural use, as well as the study and monitoring of geologically active areas such as volcanic and earthquake regions.
TanDEM-X
The objective of the TanDEM-X mission (TerraSAR-X add-on for Digital Elevation Measurement) is to produce a highly accurate, three-dimensional image of our Earth with uniform quality and unprecedented accuracy.
FireBIRD mission
The FireBIRD mission uses the two TET-1 (Technologie-Erprobungsträger 1;Technology Experiment Carrier 1) and BIROS (Bi-spectral InfraRed Optical System) satellites to detect high temperature events on Earth’s surface. They can also precisely capture small, low energy events thanks to the sensitivity of the sensors and the high precision and resolution.
Transport research
DLR conducts research into the transport sector. With its extensive programme, DLR is Europe’s second largest institutionally funded transport research institution. Here, the challenges for tomorrow's mobility are identified and concrete interdisciplinary solutions are developed. The results contribute to a sustainable transport system in Germany and Europe that benefit both the economy and society.
Dawn - Mission to Vesta and Ceres
NASA's Dawn spacecraft was launched on 27 September 2007, and has been in space for more than 11 years exploring the asteroid Vesta and the dwarf planet Ceres.
Security research
In this cross-sectoral area, research and development activities in the fields of aeronautics, space, energy and transport that have relevance for defence and security are planned and controlled in coordination with partners in government, science and industry.
DLR research aircraft HALO
The High Altitude and LOng Range Research Aircraft (HALO) research aircraft heralds a new chapter in the history of German atmospheric research and Earth observation. The combination of range, cruising altitude, payload and comprehensive instrumentation make the aircraft a globally unique research platform.
