Research on assistance functions in automated driving

Be­fore an as­sis­tance sys­tem is test­ed on the road, it pass­es through nu­mer­ous stages in the sim­u­la­tion.

Before an assistance system is tested on the road, it undergoes numerous simulations. Once an assistance function gets to an advanced product stage, the Dynamic Driving Simulator at the DLR Institute of Transportation System comes into play. The simulation provided by this facility is so realistic that it is possible to make a proper assessment of the functions even in critical situations, and to ensure a safe transition to the test vehicle. Three parameters ensure a realistic ride feeling: a powerful motion system, a high-quality projection system with corresponding visualisation, and the integration of different mock-ups (replicas of vehicle cabins) for road and rail vehicles.
