The Rotating Cascade Tunnel Göttingen (RGG)

The Rotating Cascade Tunnel in Göttingen (RGG), which is operated by the DLR Institute of Propulsion Technology, located in Göttingen, is used for experimental investigations into annular turbine cascades over a wide range of parameters (for example, transonic flow and independent variation of Mach and Reynolds numbers is possible). The test facility allows cost-effective, fundamental research to be carried out on turbines.

At the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR), researchers carry out investigations into the aerodynamics of single-shaft research turbines of different sizes and pressure ratios, with up to one-and-a-half stages. It is also possible to investigate stationary and rotating annular cascades, as well as models of exhaust gas diffusers used for pressure recovery in power plant turbine outlets. Such research helps to improve the efficiency of turbines and exhaust gas diffusers, as well as providing extensive experimental data for validating numerical simulations.
