Signal Analysis and Timing Systems Department

Signal Analysis and Timing Systems

This department focuses on the operational analysis of GNSS signals by using DLR-owned antennas and world-wide distributed GNSS receiver stations. It evaluates user- and system-specific performance parameters and is working on the generation of robust system timescales for the next generation of the European satellite navigation systems.

The core tasks within the Galileo competence centre are:

  • Development and demonstration of a robust “Precise Timing Facility” for Galileo to provide reliable and highly accurate timing signals. This is of central importance for the stability of the provided navigation and time data
  • Analysis, development and demonstration of corresponding operational concepts (24/7) to generate system time
  • Examination of current, and demonstration of new, clock technologies and concepts with regard to their long-term operational use
  • Systematic and constant monitoring and analysis of the signal quality from Galileo and other world-wide available satellite navigation systems with high-performance antennas and receiver networks
