Women in science: Honouring the past, shaping the future
To mark the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we are highlighting the important role of women in research and technology. Historically, the contributions of many female scientists have often been overlooked - a phenomenon known as the "Matilda effect".
Currently, the proportion of women in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) degree programmes has increased: in 2021, almost 35% of first-semester students were women destatis.de
In our video, two of our female engineers, Despoina and Francesca, share their personal experiences and insights into their work. They talk about their passion for engineering, the challenges they have faced and the importance of diversity in science.
At DLR, we are actively committed to equal opportunities and want to encourage women to pursue a career in STEM subjects. Through an inclusive working environment and targeted support programmes, we offer the opportunity to realise their full potential and work together to develop innovative solutions for the future.
