Workshop on Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) Hosted by the Galileo Competence Center (GK) and DFD at DLR
The Galileo Competence Center (GK) and the German Remote Sensing Data Center (DFD) recently co-hosted a "Wissensaustausch Workshop" focused on Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE). The WAW format at DLR provides a platform for knowledge sharing and collaboration, allowing experts from various DLR institutes to exchange insights, identify synergies, and advance shared goals. GK and DFD took the lead in organising this workshop, recognizing MBSE as a crucial tool for the efficient development and management of complex aerospace systems, both in space and on ground.
MBSE uses a structured, model-driven approach to systems engineering, enhancing design, documentation, and analysis processes across project stages. For GK, MBSE in combination with requirements engineering is central to payload design and development in key projects like COMPASSO and QYRO, while DFD uses MBSE primarily for the documentation and modernization of long-standing ground systems and infrastructure.
Held in Oberpfaffenhofen on November 6-7, 2024, this workshop welcomed 41 participants from five DLR locations and eleven institutes, alongside guest speakers from academia and industry. The lecture series covered a wide range of MBSE topics, including requirements management, tool development, and MBSE applications in research and education. Attendees also had the chance to join tours of DLR facilities, such as the DFD data archive, the Center for Satellite Based Crisis Information, the RMC robotics lab, the optical ground station, and the research aircraft.
Through this event, GK underscored their commitment to MBSE as a driving force in aerospace research and development, fostering collaboration across DLR and with external partners to build a more interconnected and efficient engineering ecosystem.
