Santorini Islands seen from space
It has been 3600 years since a powerful explosion formed the large caldera, which is now filled with water; in its centre stand the Kameni Islands. The German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR) TerraSAR-X satellite looked down on the archipelago from an altitude of 514 kilometres.
