NASA orbiter LADEE at the Moon
The NASA Lunar Atmosphere and Dust Environment Explorer, LADEE, spacecraft has been orbiting the Moon since October 2013. The Lunar Lasercom Space Terminal (LLST) transmits a signal to Earth that travels 400,000 kilometres and passes through the atmosphere to be analysed by scientists at the German Aerospace Center (DLR). This is the first time that an optical link has been analysed following the signal’s long journey through space.
