Perspective view of Siloe Patera

Perspective view of Siloe Patera
Using data from the High Resolution Stereo Camera (HRSC) operated by the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR) on board ESA’s Mars Express spacecraft, it is possible to create perspective views of the imaged landscape based on digital terrain models. In the case of Siloe Patera, the shield-like nature of the landscape and the morphology of the environment are clearly visible. Regardless of the on-going discussion as to whether Siloe Patera is the remnant of a Martian supervolcano or a conventional impact crater, the perspective view shows that water has flowed into the interior of the depression through small valleys.
