Anaglyph image of Mangala Valles and Minio Vallis
This anaglyph image, which conveys a three-dimensional impression of the landscape when viewed through red-blue (cyan) or red-green spectacles, was computed based on data acquired by the nadir channel, which points vertically downwards on to the surface of Mars, and one of the four stereo channels. Here, it is easy to discern how sediments filled the older impact craters up to the level of the surrounding plain and partially flowed around the crater rim. A deep channel is visible along the bottom of the image; its terraces and side walls indicate that the water had a high-energy flow. In order to enable the viewing of the image in ‘3D’, north is located to the right.
