The first crew on the ISS
US astronaut William Shepherd (centre) was a member the first long-term crew on the International Space Station (ISS), with the Russian cosmonauts Yuri Gidzenko (left) and Sergei Krikalev (right). On 31 October 2000, the team launched on board the Space Shuttle Discovery, arriving at the ISS on 2 November 2000 as Expedition One.
