The over 4000-metre tall Ahuna Mons on the dwarf planet Ceres is one of the most remarkable mountains in the Solar System. Its smooth flanks are almost craterless, which means that the mountain is relatively young, geologically speaking. Scientists have now discovered that a plume of brine and mud rising from the mantle of Ceres extruded to the surface and piled up to form Ahuna Mons.
