The DLR Institute of Aerodynamics and Flow Technology operates the trisonic wind tunnel Cologne (TMK). The wind tunnel is used to analyse the flow dynamics for scaled models of future aircraft travelling at between Mach 1.25 and 2.4, as well as to measure aerodynamic and aerothermodynamic stress acting on models and their components. The H2K and TMK wind tunnels are complementary facilities as they operate in similar ways, which means that the same models can be tested in both systems.
