SOFIA targets black holes
This artist's impression shows the Cygnus A galaxy – with a supermassive black hole in the centre and the orthogonal radio jets – which was examined with the high-resolution infrared camera HAWC+ on board SOFIA during a flight over southern California. The data collected on the magnetic field form the basis for the follow-up observation of the Markarian 231 galaxy, which SOFIA will observe during its first scientific European flight.
