The cutting open of ‘Blaubeuren’ brought the obvious proof that the 1989 find from a garden in Swabia is in fact a meteorite. In addition to the typical matrix of millimetre-sized chondrules (which can be seen in this magnified photo and also in the microscope image), the brightly reflecting cut surfaces of metallic inclusions are also characteristic of a stony meteorite. ‘Blaubeuren’ contains around five to 10 percent iron and nickel. The cut surface has a width of approximately 13 centimetres.
