On 11 December 2021, two giants met: the James Webb Space Telescope and the Ariane 5 launcher. In the so-called Final Assembly Building at Europe's Spaceport in French Guiana, the space telescope was carefully hoisted 40 metres and placed atop the Ariane 5. The whole process was carried out under the strictest security and cleanliness conditions because it was the most delicate part of the integration. A 'shower curtain' over 12 metres high and eight metres in diameter was drawn in to ensure maximum protection from contamination.
