The European Data Relay System (EDRS)
EDRS is a network of geostationary satellites. With this system, large amounts of data can be transmitted by Earth observation satellites in relatively low orbits to Earth in real time. The decisive advantage is that the satellites are thus no longer bound to the short contact times during their flight via the respective ground stations. Now the ISS also benefits from this system through the new ColKa antenna.
