The ‘optical bench’, which carries the payload consisting of 26 individual cameras for ESA’s PLATO mission, during thermoelastic deformation tests in the Large Space Simulator (LSS), at ESA’s European Space Research and Technology Centre in Noordwijk, the Netherlands. The LSS is Europe’s largest vacuum chamber. It is a cylindrical vessel with a height of 15 metres and a width of 10 metres. The simulator is used to test full-size spacecraft under realistic space conditions.
