Burnt areas in Europe between 2016 and 2021 – all fires
The area shown includes all fires recorded from April 2016 to December 2021. Included here are fires on forest, moorland and heathland as well as those on agricultural land. These fires are traditionally used for agricultural purposes and account for the majority of fire activity in eastern Europe. According to the map, a total of around 24 million hectares burned, of which five million were identified as forest fires (see following figure).
