Test stand P4 - Every test on a main-stage engine is an impressive event. A Vulcain 2.1 consumes 600,000 litres of liquid hydrogen and 200,000 litres of liquid oxygen – forming pure water – during a firing duration of approximately 12 minutes. Together with the water used for cooling, this forms the characteristic steam cloud above the test site. Later, this falls back to Earth as rain.
