Using the external part of the laser terminal on the DLR Dornier 228-212 research aircraft, researchers succeeded for the first time in 2011 to transmit a quantum key from a fast-moving object. In the successful experiment conducted by the DLR Institute of Communications and Navigation in cooperation with the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) in Munich, the quantum data was sent from an aircraft to a ground station via a laser beam.
