The image of NASA's Galileo spacecraft from December 1992 shows a view of the Moon's North Pole, which is located approximately in the middle of the upper right corner of the day and night boundary. The illuminated areas show the northern hemisphere of the near side of the Moon with the dark regions of the volcanic Mare planes and the bright, original lunar crust, which are also visible to the naked eye.
