Italian locust during oviposition
The Italian locust (Calliptamus italicus), the Moroccan locust (Dociostaurus maroccanus) and other species are native to Kazakhstan. In the Locust-Tec project, researchers are developing methods to detect and contain outbreaks of these two species as early as possible. To do this, the project participants are combining Earth observation data with observations made using drones and the digitalisation of information recorded on site. They are also testing possible environment-friendly countermeasures.
