Influence of Saharan dust
Over Cabo Verde, strong influences of Saharan dust are often visible. The upper half of the image shows the sunset light, but the reddish colour of the air layer below is due to Saharan dust. The dust layer is so cloudy and extensive that it completely covers the horizon, as seen here from HALO.
