Test setup for DLR measurements on the ADAC rescue helicopter using bio-kerosene
The measurements required a delicate touch from the pilot, who had to apply throttle on the ground as if preparing for take-off − without actually lifting off. Using a probe, the DLR team measured various combustion gases, as well as the number and size of ultrafine particles present in the helicopter's exhaust. Researchers monitored these measurements live from the mobile laboratory located next to the helicopter.
