The DLR Institute of Communications and Navigation is testing its 'DLR NavShoe' – a special measurement device that attaches to a shoe and helps locate emergency personnel. The device transmits position and movement data, with sensors also capturing acceleration and rotation. It also generates 3D map data. Small and lightweight, the NavShoe is complemented by another satellite-based localisation tool, which is worn on clothing or mounted on a helmet.
