Visualisation of turbulence on a turbine blade
This figure shows a snapshot of a scale-resolving simulation from NASA's 'Common Research Model' in a high-lift configuration, which was carried out using the previous standard CFD solver for external aerodynamics, TAU (in future, the standard will be CODA). Depicted are the isosurfaces of a common vortex detection criterion (Q-criterion), which are coloured with the local Mach number. They enable the visual observation of large-scale vortex phenomena and their interactions (for example, in the wake of the engine nacelle) and the identification and evaluation of small-scale turbulent structures within the framework of scale-resolving simulation.
