Launch of the Cassini-Huygens mission on 15 October 1997

Car­ried on board a Ti­tan 4B rock­et, the Cassi­ni space­craft and the Huy­gens probe were launched on 15 Oc­to­ber 1997 from Cape Canaver­al dur­ing a spec­tac­u­lar noc­tur­nal lift-off. It took sev­en years for the space­craft to reach Sat­urn, which or­bits the Sun at a dis­tance of around 1.4 bil­lion kilo­me­tres.

Carried on board a Titan 4B rocket, the Cassini spacecraft and the Huygens probe were launched on 15 October 1997 from Cape Canaveral during a spectacular nocturnal lift-off. It took seven years for the spacecraft to reach Saturn, which orbits the Sun at a distance of around 1.4 billion kilometres.
