DLR Management System

The German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR) is one of the leading research organisations in Europe. As such, this is associated with the highest demands on the quality of our scientific results and technological developments, including the processes in order to achieve them. At the same time, DLR is committed to making sustainability an integral part not only in the minds of the people at DLR, but also in its processes and activities. In doing so, it relies on a holistic and company-wide management system.
In accordance with its decentralised structure and with regard to the organisation of its management system, DLR also follows the principle of subsidiarity in the organisation of its management system: "As centralised as necessary, as decentralised as possible".
The aim is to optimally map not only the responsibilities in the organisational units, but also their different contexts, such as interested parties, areas of responsibilities, processes, opportunities and risks.
Different management system areas can be centralised to varying degrees. While the implementation of quality management is the responsibility of the respective institutes and facilities, energy management, for example, is organised centrally at DLR.
