A320 ATRA - one of the engines of DLR's new research platform
The image shows the right engine of DLR's new ATRA research platform (Advanced Technology Research Aircraft). ATRA is the successor to DLR's VFW 614 ATTAS research aircraft (Advanced Technologies Testing Aircraft System). The Airbus outclasses the veteran VFW 614 in all dimensions: its wingspan is larger by about 50 percent, it is almost twice as long, its launch weight is almost four times heavier, and it has considerably better flight performance.
