As leading players in the European space sector, Germany and France collaborate closely in many fields: both want Europe to have autonomous and reliable access to space. In remote Earth sensing, they pool their competencies in MERLIN, a joint satellite mission to detect methane – a gas with a powerful greenhouse effect whose atmospheric concentration is not yet known on a global scale.
