The LISA Technology Package
The centrepiece of the mission is the LISA Technology Package (LTP). The main components are two test masses (gold / platinum cubes), the surrounding electrode housings, the optical bench and the inertial sensors – all of which are thermally and mechanically isolated within the LTP. In addition, there is a sensitive measurement and electronic control system (the optical control system), which has its own onboard computer. The difficult task of bringing together all of the subsystems to create the final system was carried out by Airbus Defence and Space (formally EADS Astrium GmbH) in Friedrichshafen. This company was also responsible for the overall coordination of the LTP development programme.
