Research at an altitude of over 4500 metres
DLR is all set to use the Margherita Hut, Europe’s highest building, to conduct a study on oedema formation, which will see 10 test subjects voluntarily expose themselves to altitude sickness, a disease whose causes and countermeasures have been insufficiently researched thus far. The insight acquired from this study will help astronauts living in an altered pressure atmosphere on future Mars missions. But earthly patients showing relevant symptoms will also benefit.
