Tectonic map of Mars. Red – expansion zones, in geological terms mostly rift valleys like the Upper Rhine Graben. Blue – compression zones, in geological terms mostly ‘wrinkle ridges’ that have no equivalent on Earth. The map shows Mars in an equal-area Hammer projection. The yellow star indicates the landing site selected for the Insight mission.
