The single-celled green alga Chlorella vulgaris converts carbon dioxide in the Photobioreactor into biomass and oxygen with the help of light, using photosynthesis. This extremely small aquatic organism inside the reactors thus regenerates fresh cabin air for the astronauts to breathe. The image shows an experimental setup in the laboratory.
