The D1 mission, launched in October 1985, was the first to have German mission management. The D1 mission astronauts carried out almost 80 experiments during their seven-day stint in space. They trained for a year before the launch – having to learn all the steps of every experiment and rehearse them. This image shows Reinhard Furrer (left) and Wubbo Ockels carrying out an experiment together.
