Deforestation in Bolivia
Deforestation in Bolivia
This Sentinel-2 image shows an area of Bolivia that was once part of the Amazon rainforest, but which has since been cleared for settlement programmes and agriculture.
A large patchwork of agricultural fields can be seen to the east of the city of Santa Cruz (centre left). As recently as the 1960s, this was an area of dense Amazon rainforest. Since the 1980s, forests have been clear-cut on a large scale, partly to develop the area for agriculture.
