As the name suggests, the Arctic Weather Satellite (AWS) is designed to improve weather forecasting in the Arctic – a region currently lacking data for accurate short-term forecasts. AWS is equipped with a 19-channel, cross-track microwave radiometer that provides high-resolution humidity and temperature measurements of the atmosphere in all weather conditions.
