Perspective view from the west of the layered polar deposits in the 'Australe Scopuli' region
The right side of this image is dominated by a huge pile of layered deposits consisting of a mixture of ice and dust. Further up, lower-lying areas of the region can be seen, where darker shades predominate. The light and dark 'spots' on top are fan-shaped deposits, which probably formed in the springtime through carbon dioxide ice fountains.
