Chasma Boreale valley at Mars's north pole
The most striking landscape feature on Mars's north pole is Chasma Boreale. Bordered by steep slopes, this northern canyon is almost 500 kilometres long and in places up to two kilometres deep. At its mouth, the canyon is approximately 100 kilometres wide.
