Thanks to its robust design, DLR's Scout rover is able to navigate this challenging terrain. Scout features a novel, flexible spoked wheel and deformable back elements that allow it to overcome obstacles that other rovers cannot. Scout can even drive upside down and survive falls from over two metres in height. This makes it ideal for exploration missions on Mars and the Moon. On Earth, this resilient system could also be used for rescuing people who have been buried as well as agricultural robotics.
