Losses due to wildfires
In 2018, 2019 and 2022, three major fires affected woodland between the Brandenburg towns of Treuenbrietzen and Jüterbog. Following a series of intense dry periods, the prevalent pine woods were particularly susceptible to fire. The image here shows the changes caused by the fires. Thanks to the high temporal resolution of EO Wald data, canopy cover losses can also be viewed as a monthly or seasonal comparison. The seasonal display highlights that fires primarily occur in the summer months (red and orange on the scale), but that delayed effects can also occur along the edges.
