Remnants of block glaciers in Deuteronilus Cavus
Remnants of block glaciers in Deuteronilus Cavus
Along almost all sections of the crater wall of Deuteronilus Cavus, flow patterns can be observed. These structures are often interpreted as remnants of block glaciers – ice-rich material mixed with rock debris and covered by a protective rock layer. As the ice evaporates into the atmosphere, it leaves behind debris deposits with flow patterns caused by the glacier moving under its own weight. These are typical landforms found in the mid-latitudes of Mars.
